FSUE “Rosmorport” management discusses environment and navigation safety in the Far East

An operational meeting chaired by Rosmorrechflot deputy head Nadezhda Zhikhareva was held at the FSUE “Rosmorport” Far Eastern Basin Branch September 10, 2018.

The meeting involved FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Andrei Lavrishchev, Deputy General Director Oksana Gubina and the management of the Far Eastern Basin Branch.

The participants in the meeting discussed environmental aspects of the region. In particular, they considered in detail issues related to suppressing coal dust during coal transshipment in the seaports of Vostochny and Nakhodka.

In 2018 within the framework of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum the Russian Transport Ministry, the Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service, FSUE “Rosmorport”, the Administration of Primorye Territory and JSC “Eastern Port” concluded an agreement to implement a comprehensive environmental program for moving to coal transshipment close technology. Under the program, additional high technology dust separation and dust suppression equipment is modernized and installed. The program also envisions the construction of wind and dust protection barriers.

The meeting focused on issues to develop vessel tracking systems (VTS). The FSUE “Rosmorport” Far Eastern Basin Branch provides functioning of coastal navigation safety systems in the water areas of the seaports of Vladivostok, Vostochny, Zarubino, Nakhodka, Posyet (including the sea terminal of Slavyanka) and on the approaches toward them.

VTS Vladivostok and VTS Nakhodka provide almost uninterrupted radar cover of the coastal part of the Peter the Great Bay, and the installation of additional AIS base stations allows for spreading control over navigation in the open part of the bay. Further development of VTS Vladivostok and VTS Nakhodka is directly connected to promising projects on the construction of new cargo terminals in the Ussuri Bay and the Vostok Bay.

During the meeting, the Director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Far Eastern Basin Branch said, the enterprise had started dredging operations in the water area of the seaport of Vladivostok. In the future the Branch is planning to carry out similar works in the seaports of the Bay of Nakhodka. As of today, projecting has been made and the first stage of dredging at Berth 1 and Berth 2 has been completed at the sea terminal of Vladivostok. Totally, over 1.6 million cubic meters of soil is expected to be excavated in the seaports of Vostochny and Nakhodka.
