FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director takes part in discussion of the issues related to Northern Sea Route development

A meeting was held in Sabetta on August 20, 2018 to focus on the development of the Northern Sea Route, projects aimed at developing and transporting LNG, as well as issues related to transport and industrial projects associated with the said projects.

The meeting chaired by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov involved Russian Minister for Natural Resources Dmitry Kobylkin, Russian Deputy Transport Minister – Head of Rosmorrechflot Yuri Tsvetkov, PJSC “NOVATEK” board chairman Leonid Mikhelson, Director-General, chairman of the board of JSC “Russian Raliways” Oleg Belozerov, Deputy Director-General – Director of the Northern Sea Route Board of Rosatom State Corporation Vyacheslav Ruksha, Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun, Yamal Acting Governor Dmitry Artyukhov, Rosmorrechflot deputy head Nadezhda Zhikhareva, FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Andrei Lavrishchev and others.

Yamal and Murmansk region are the key areas of the development of the Northern Sea Route. “In terms of the development of the Northern Sea Route, the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area and the Murmansk region are practically an integral unit at the project level, as well as in respect of transportation of hydrocarbons and technological cooperation, and the presence of investors on these territories. Now we primarily rivet attention to logistics,” Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov said.

The participants in the meeting discussed issues related to the development of the Northern Sea Route in order to increase cargo traffic to up to 80 million tons by the year 2024. Date on developing the existing projects and working out promising infrastructural projects on the Northern Sea Route was presented. The speakers noted the importance of creating ports’ capacities and building a special fleet of ice class, including icebreakers.

Russian Deputy Transport Minister – Head of Rosmorrechflot Yuri Tsvetkov spoke in detail on further navigation on the Northern Sea Route due to transfer of authority for operating the Northern Sea Route to Rosatom State Corporation.

On the same day the participants in the meeting have visited several facilities and harbor works in the seaport of Sabetta. FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Andrei Lavrishchev provided explanations on the current state and plans on the development of the youngest Russian Arctic port.
