On July 1, 2018 the “Khersones” sailing ship turned into the major participant of the events held at the seaport of Yalta, which were devoted to the celebration of the Day of Marine and River Fleet Workers.

The captain of the frigate, Dmitry Teslenko, the ship's crew, cadets and employees of the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Crimean Sea Port branch – “Yalta Commercial Port”, as well as other representatives of the professional community participated in the celebration.

A congratulation sent over by the Minister of transport of Russia Eugene Dietrich was read on board a sailing ship. Dmitry Teslenko, the Captain of the “Khersones” sailing ship also made a welcoming speech and made his best wishes to the guests. A few complimentary words also came from the honored guests: Alexei Volkov, the General Director of SUE “Crimean sea ports”; Roman Podsudevskiy, Director of SUE Crimean Sea Port branch – “Yalta Commercial Port”; Boris Furman, Captain of the seaport of Yalta.

Also, there was an awarding ceremony which was held as part of festivities: cadets of industrial educational institutions were granted commendations for the success achieved in the course of the shipboard training practice on board the “Khersones” sailing ship.

The celebrations, festive mood and music on board of the Frigate lasted though the whole day. The Sevastopol musical band of veterans of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia called “Morskaya Dusha (Sea Soul)” has arrived to congratulate the guests. They performed a series of well-known and favorite sea themed songs

And by tradition, the festival ended by a tug-of-war competition. As usual, the winners received the traditional sweet prize - a box full of condensed milk cans. That time the cadets had to compete against the SUE Crimean Sea Port branch -"Yalta Commercial Port" Team, which ended up winning the event. The second and third places went to the “Khersones” sailing ship teams of cadets.

The Day of Marine and River Fleet Workers is a professional holiday for all sailors and rivermen of passenger, commercial and icebreaking fleets , for all port workers, fitters and many other professionals, working to ensure the activities on maritime and river routes.
