Representatives of the maritime transport industry pay tribute to memory of sailors perished in the Great Patriotic War

On May 11, 2018, a solemn event devoted to the celebrations marking the 73rd anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was held in the Moryak recreation and retreat center located in Mozhaisk District, Moscow Region.

The solemn meeting involved Russian Deputy Transport Minister, head of Rosmorrechflot Viktor Olersky and the agency’s deputies head, FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Andrei Lavrishchev and the enterprise’s deputies, chairman of the Council of Maritime and Inland Shipping Fleet veterans Yuri Mikhailov, war veterans and the rear’s laborers, employees of FSUE “Rosmorport”.

The honorable guests congratulated the audience on the Victory Day and expressed gratitude to veterans for their courage and bravery, heroism and fidelity to Motherland. The feat of the Soviet people is the example for the whole generation. Our people got the victory in the Great Patriotic War not only by the force of arms but also by their firmness. The courage and the tough life of the people, who had been restoring plants for weeks despite hunger and destruction, working hard to assist to the front, saving injured people, will remain in our hearts forever. The years and decades will pass, but those who have struggled for the victory every day, will remain in our memories forever.

The participants in the meeting laid wreaths and flowers to the monument “To the Memory of Sailors and Ships Perished in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War” and paid tribute to the memory of perished soldiers during a minute of silence.

Children of the Moscow Academy of Water Transport – the branch of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping performed songs and poems of military years.

The Moryak recreation and retreat center has become a traditional place to hold different patriotic events. This was the site of the pioneers’ flotilla created by Soviet Union Hero, first Polar explorer Ivan Dmitriyevich Papanin. The flotilla’s detachments were called crews and were named in the name of different ships. Vessels’ crewmembers have assumed tutelage over young sailors. Every year a march has been held in memory of perished soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. Obelisks have been erected in nearby villages on the initiative of children to paid tribute to the memory of perished people. The Moryak recreation and retreat center has been created on the site of the flotilla before long.
