FSUE “Rosmorport” organizes tall sail regatta devoted to 73rd anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War

The FSUE “Rosmorport” Cup tall sail regatta was held in the Kaliningrad Bay on May 6-8, 2018. The regatta was devoted to the 73rd anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The competitions involved workers of the Kaliningrad Directorate of the North-Western Basin Branch and yachtsmen of the Kaliningrad Region Yacht Federation.

FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director for Navigation Safety Andrei Gorodishtyan, who also took part in the competition as the captain of the Volga yacht, has opened the regatta.

The regatta has been held in two stages. Three launch teams have struggled for prizes. The first stage of the races has been held in the Kaliningrad Bay at the distance of 24 miles. The second stage has been held at the distance of 12 miles. Totally twelve yachts have taken part in the regatta. Women were among members of the teams.

The Volga yacht led by Andrei Gorodishtyan has come first in the Open Group.

The Baltika yacht led by Head of Pilot Service of the Kaliningrad Directorate of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch Sergei Yevchenko took the medal place in Group No 1. The Tesla yacht with the team of enterprise’s employees became winner in Group No 2.

The program of the regatta envisions the events devoted to the Great Victory. On May 7, the participants in the competitions visited the memorial to soldiers of the Soviet Army in Branevo (Poland), which is the largest foreign burial of Soviet soldiers perished in World War II. Over 31,000 Soviet soldiers had been buried in it. Yachtsmen laid wreaths and flowers to the monument and paid the tribute to the memory of perished soldiers by observing a minute of silence.

On May 8, yachts, which took part in the regatta, put on the Baltic Sea, on the outer roadstead of the seaport of Kaliningrad. Employees of FSUE “Rosmorport” and representatives of the Administration of Baltiysk, the command of the Baltic Fleet, the region’s Yacht Federation, the World Ocean Museum paid the tribute to the memory of sailors perished during the battle in Pillau (Baltiysk). Wreaths have been floated out from the Serpukhov small-size missile ship and the Baltika yacht. Then a firework has been shot.

Heroes giving their lives for the freedom of our Motherland and the liberation of Europe from fascism shall stay in our memories forever!
