FSUE “Rosmorport” sailing ships ready for cadets

Preparations are ending on FSUE “Rosmorport” training sailing ships to start the 2018 navigation.

During the 2017-2018 mooring inter-navigation period, lots of repair works have been done on the frigates – the Nadezhda, the Khersones and the Mir.

The Mir training sailing ship is ready for the upcoming navigation and training of cadets of maritime colleges. During the navigation period, dry-docking, repairs of electromechanical equipment and systems have been made. The sailing ship’s hull has been fully cleaned and painted. The bottom has been turned around with anti-fouling protective cover that will improve the sailing ship’s sea performance and increase the speed.

For the first time since the construction of the sailing ship (in 1989) the standing ropes have been replaced on the Khersones sailing ship. Over seven kilometers of the new steel hawser will allow the crew and cadets to use all sails of the frigate (26 sails) in high winds. As of today minor repairs of crew quarters have been completed. Cadets’ pantry and the cookhouse will be re-equipped by the arrival of cadets of maritime colleges. An additional steamer has been installed. In addition, planning repairs of the sailing ship’s systems and mechanism have been ended.

The Nadezhda frigate also waits for the 2018 navigation. The deck flat has been replaced. New cranes have been established. Drinking tanks have been cleaned and painted. The repairs of electromechanical equipment have been completed.

The sailing ships will leave for first training voyages in April. During the cruises, children will study marine navigation, the operation of the sailing ship’s electromechanical equipment and the ship’s key structural units and acquire the secrets of the work with sails.

FSUE “Rosmorport” jointly with the industry’s education institutions organizes and conducts navigation training on the enterprise’s sailing ships that will help increase quality of personnel training for the fleet and related industries – the key resource of the development of the country’s transport complex.
