Governmental transport commission approves roadmaps on the development of Russian seaports

On March 22, 2018 the governmental transport commission approved roadmaps till 2020 (with an option to extend them till 2030) to develop the seaports of the Baltic Basin and Western Arctic, as well as close and long-distance railway and automobile approaches toward these seaports.

The roadmaps are a consolidated list of major events necessary to create facilities of the maritime infrastructure to meet the needs of Russia’s economy in export and import of cargoes handled in the above-said basins. The implementation of the events specified in these documents will help create conditions for the effective development of port capacities that have been balanced with the events on the creation of approaches toward them.

Taking into consideration the balance and load of the current capacities, as well asthe need to solve the strategically important task to redirect Russian cargo flow from ports of adjacent states, the summed demand in competitive capacities in the ports of the Baltic Basin and Western Arctic will make up 25.8 million tons in the base scenario by the year 2020 and 44.5 million tons in the ports of the Far Eastern Basin and Eastern Arctic.
