The Kapitan Khlebnikov icebreaker frees the Igor Farkhutdinov motorship from ice

The Kapitan Khlebnikov icebreaker of FSUE “Rosmorport” successfully completed icebreaker support for the Igor Farkhutdinov motorship at 3:00 a.m. Moscow time February 11, 2018.

The icebound passenger ship was blocked up when leaving the Kunashir Strait. A total of 127 passengers were aboard the ship. The Kapitan Khlebnikov escorted the motorship to open water. Icebreaker support has been provided only in daylight: while moving it was necessary to perform regular scraping of the passenger ship.

The following weather conditions have been reported in the area: the wind is 7 m/s from the north; the air temperature is minus 2 degrees Celsius; visibility is five meters, the weather is cloudy; the white ice of 6 points, the medium first-year ice of 4 points; the hummock of 3 points; the snow cover of 2 points; the ice nip of 2 points.

After being freed from ice the Igor Farkhutdinov continued its voyage and left for the seaport of Korsakov.
