The Kapitan Khlebnikov icebreaker to free the Igor Farkhutdinov motorship from ice

The Kapitan Khlebnikov of FSUE “Rosmorport” left the seaport of Prigorodnoye on February 9, 2018 to free the Igor Farkhutdinov motorship from ice.

The icebound passenger ship is currently stuck at the exit from the Kunashir Strait. According to specialists’ estimates, the ice concentration achieves the 10 maximum possible points.

The captain of the motor ship sent a signal on the heavy ice situation and the emergency situation to the FSUE “Rosmorport” Sakhalin Branch GMDSS center. Since February 5 the ship has tried to force way through the ice. The FSUE “Rosmorport” Aniva Bay VTMS center has been working in the regime of high alert by monitoring the talks on the air and controlling the motorship’s movement. Moreover, the GMDSS operators have helped passengers establish contracts with relatives.

The ship operator company addressed FSUE “Rosmorport” to provide icebreaker support to successfully complete the voyage and arrive at the seaport of Korsakov.

At 2:00 p.m. Moscow time the Kapitan Khlebnikov left for the Igor Farkhutdinov vessel position (Latitude=44.504452 N, Longitude=144.243584 E). The motorship is 135 nautical miles from Prigorodnoye.
