Floating pontoon bridge put into trial operation in Petrozavodsk

A floating pontoon bridge across the Logmozersky channel, Solomennoye, was put into trial operation in Petrozavodsk on December 14, 2017.

The crossing passage’s readiness has been assessed by head of the Republic of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov, city Mayor Irina Miroshnik and Director of LLC “Onego Shipyard” Vladimir Maizus.

The bridge is an important transport artery for local residents and tourists. This is the only acceptable route for ambulances, fire-fighting vehicles and water trailers, buses and public taxi buses, construction and cargo machinery.

The bridge has been built at the Onego Shipyard under the order of the Petrozavodsk City District Administration.

Putting the facility into operation allows for single-path reverse traffic of automobiles, passengers buses and trucks with total weight of up to 30 tons, as well as pedestrian traffic and small vessels movement.

The bridge was put afloat on November 17, 2017. Upon completion of successful testing the bridge has been towed to the Logmozersky channel where employees of LLC “Onego Shipyard” have regulated the height of ferry bridges, powered up and switched on traffic lights, and installed surveillance cameras.

For two months the bridge will function in a testing mode. Specialists have to check the structural state at full throttle.
