Government approves strategy on development of Russian ports in Caspian Basin

On November 11, 2017 Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a resolution to approve the Strategy on the Development of Russian Seaports in the Caspian Basin and railway and motorway approaches toward them till the year 2030. The resolution released on Saturday.

The major goals of the Strategy are to strengthen the economic and geopolitical presence of Russia in the Caspian Sea, to expand economic and cultural relations with the countries of the Basin and to create conditions for developing this region by means of the increase of global trade turnover.

The implementation of the Strategy has been divided into three stages: the preparatory stage (2018-2019), the principal stage (2020-2025) and the advanced stage (2026-2030).

The Strategy is aimed at resolving regulatory, tariff, investment, operational and institutional issues.

 “The implementation of the Strategy and the realization of its key figures will help to ensure grain export through the ports of the Caspian Basin in the amount of up to seven million tons by the year 2030. The flow of cargo by other dry cargoes will consist of up to seven million tons. The implementation of the Strategy will also allow to attract Russian tourists to the Caspian Region with up to 30.000 people annually and create more than 2.000 jobs,” the document says.
