Onego Shipyard welcomes heads of Russian regions

Head of the Republic of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov  and Yamal Nenets Autonomous Area Governor Dmitry Kobylkin visited the Onego Shipyard, which is one of the major economic facilities in the republic, during their trip to Petrozavodsk on October 12, 2017.

During the trip, the regions' heads inspected the plant's operating departments and discussed prospects for possible shipbuilding cooperation with the plant's director, Vladimir Maizus.

The Onego Shipyard has the advantageous geographical location with opening into the water area of Onega Lake and with approach railway tracks. Up-to-date equipment and the plant's capacity allow its specialists to build vessels of ice class of up to 140 meters in length and up to 16.5 meters in breadth. The allowable light-ship limit makes up to 2.300 tons. In addition, the plant is capable of carrying out a wide range of repairing and other auxiliary works not restricted by the shipbuilding industry.

The honorable guests studied the process for constructing auxiliary ships for the use of the seaport of Sabetta. The participants in the meeting noted the importance of inter-regional cooperation to solve problems on the development of the Arctic zone of the country.

For his part, the director of the Onego Shipyard reported on prospects for building a fishery fleet, tankers and bunkering barges. He also spoke about a technical possibility to build vessels operated on liquefied natural gas.

The high-ranking officials of the Republic of Karelia and the Yamal Nenets Autonomous Area stressed that the development of shipbuilding cooperation was one of the priorities of regional interaction.
