Mir Sailing Ship passes North Sea

On September 14, 2017 the frigate Mir arrived in the Seaport of Fredrikstad.

The crossing over from France to Norway was not easy. It took eleven days for the frigate to overcome the storms of unfriendly North Sea. During the navigation the ship's crew did not have a good weather: squally south-west wind lifted the large waves reaching 4-5 meters high.

Under severe conditions the frigate rode 972 miles. The voyage to Fredrikstad was conducted mainly under the canvas. Under the guidance of the master the crew and cadets worked closely together as a team and professionally handled the sails. Each frigate's overpass is individual and it provides its participants a chance to try their endurance, strength of mind and to gain experience. The brightest event for the team was the ship's participation in the prestigious international race The Tall Ships Races 2017.

The mooring in the Norse city is planned till September 17. Then Mir will return home to Saint-Petersburg. The sailing ship is a symbol of the city and bears this title with dignity through seas and oceans. The frigate will celebrate its 30 year anniversary in the sea capital of our country and then leave to conquer large lengths of seas with a new cadets' shift.

This navigation was a final navigation in the natatorial practice of the 132 cadets of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. During the training cruise that had started this year on July 5 future seamen visited 9 European cities. Calling at foreign and Russian seaports the ship's crew took part in different events promoting sea culture and high level of sea education in Russia.
