Nineteen ships of Class A (large sailing ships) represented the fleets of Brazil, Poland, Germany, Holland, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Portugal, Oman, Norway and Sweden. The Mir ship represented Russia in Class A jointly with the Kruzenshtern and Sedov barks.

The purpose of the regatta with obligatory participation of youths in the crews of sailing ships from all around the world is to promote maritime affairs, sailing culture and to get new skills.

The regatta is an amazing competitive event, which does not leave any speed fans unmoved. As any sports the sailing requires serious physical and technical preparation. The participants in the race seek not only to demonstrate their skills, but to make the finish first.
