Khersones Sailing Ship Welcomes Famous Explorers

A commemorative meeting of travelers Fedor Konyukhov and Leonid Kruglov with the crew and cadets was held aboard the Khersones sailing ship on June 26, 2017. The cadets are currently finishing educational practice

During the visit, the guests were acquainted with the structure and history of the legendary frigate, which passed Cape Horn under canvas. The travelers noted the good technical condition of the vessel and the professionalism of the crew.

After the tour, a creative meeting with students and crew on the frigate was held, where guests shared their stories about their most striking achievements and travels.

Fedor Konyukhov talked about his recent world record – a voyage round the world in a balloon. The most dangerous moment in the voyage was facing with a thunderstorm front blocking the line of motion in the Atlantic ocean. Moving at high speed, the experienced traveler narrowly escaped a serious collision and slipped the thunderstorm front along its edge, having safely finished the route. Fedor Konyukhov also spoke about his love for the sea. He undertook his first solo expedition when he was 15 years old; he crossed the sea of Azov in a rowboat. Fedor Konyukhov decided to dedicate his life to the sea and graduated from Odessa Maritime Colledge as a ship driver. The great traveler stressed the importance of not only obtaining theoretical knowledge, but also mastering practical skills, which the lads hone in the open sea during shipboard training.

At the meeting, the filmmaker and traveler Leonid Kruglov presented his latest documentary project "Great Northern Path". This is a draft version of a new documentary film. These images were first shown to the public. The film tells about the Russian Arctic regions discovery and describes the campaign of the great Russian Explorer Semyon Dezhnev.

In conclusion of the events there was a memorable photo session. Travellers congratulated the cadets on the end of their sailing practice and wished them success and new achievements.
