Kapitan Dranitsyn Icebreaker Returns to Murmansk Seaport
On July 27, the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker returned to the seaport of Murmansk after wintering in the seaport of Pevek.
In January 2017 the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker jointly with the Admiral Makarov icebreaker successfully piloted two transport vessels, the Sinegorsk and the Iogann Makhmastal, carrying construction materials to the seaport of Pevek.
However, due to the complicated ice situation the icebreaker and dry cargo carriers were forced to stay in the seaport for continued wintering, which lasted from February to June.
During the wintering, the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker ensured safe mooring of transport vessels in the seaport of Pevek, and as the favorable ice situation came, the icebreaker piloted them out of the seaport of Pevek, successfully piloting the dry cargo carriers to the ice edge in the Kara Sea.
While in the seaport of Murmansk, the icebreaker will undergo regular planned repairs. Upon completion it will put to sea again to carry out new tasks for vessel pilotage in the 2017-2018 winter navigation.
