Positive conclusion of the state environmental expertise on the repair dredging operations in the seaport of Kaliningrad in 2025-2034 received

By Order of the North-Western Interregional Department of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources of 08.04.2024 No. 241-PR, a positive conclusion of the state environmental expertise of the documentation “Environmental justification of economic activities to maintain design depths in the waters of the seaport of Kaliningrad in 2025-2034” was approved.

The expert commission has established the compliance of the submitted documentation with environmental requirements defined by technical regulations and legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of environmental protection.

Annual repair dredging in the waters of the seaport of Kaliningrad is required due to the natural sediment accumulation in the area.

The facilities subject to annual dredging include the Kaliningrad Sea Canal, the inner harbors of the seaport of Kaliningrad (Volnaya Harbor and Industrialnaya Harbor), approaches to refueling stations, terminals and berths of the seaport.

According to the documentation, the annual volume of excavated soil during repair dredging will amount to more than 1.5 million cubic meters. The extracted soil will be stored in existing coastal disposal areas or dumped to offshore underwater disposal areas located to the north and south of the entrance breakwaters of the Kaliningrad Sea Canal.

Currently, repair dredging in the seaport of Kaliningrad is carried out on the basis of a positive conclusion of the state environmental expertise of the documentation “Environmental justification of economic activities to maintain design depths in the waters of the seaport of Kaliningrad in 2017-2024”, valid until the end of 2024.
