Representatives of North-Western Basin Branch take part in the event “Women in the Marine Industry: Realities and Prospects”

On March 6, 2024, representatives of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch took part in the event “Women in the Marine Industry: Realities and Prospects”, which took place at the Journalists' House in St. Petersburg.

The meeting was organized by the Seafarers’ Union of Russia with the assistance of the Maritime Council under the Government of St. Petersburg and the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping.

The event was opened by Albina Skorodumova, editor-in-chief of the Maritime Union Bulletin magazine. In her speech she emphasized the solemn significance of the event on the eve of International Women's Day.

Yuri Sukhorukov, Chairman of the Seafarers’ Union of Russia, member of the Maritime Board under the Government of the Russian Federation, and Tatyana Chekalova, Executive Secretary of the Maritime Council under the Government of St. Petersburg, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech, thanking everyone for their active participation in the event.

The meeting was devoted to the role of women in the maritime industry, their relevance in maritime professions in modern conditions, overcoming problems and barriers in professional implementation.

The FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch was represented at the round table by Nadezhda Kalashnik, Deputy Director for Economics and Finance, Tatyana Mikhailova, Deputy Director for capital construction and operation, and Alyona Laptieva, Assistant Captain for Radio Electronics of the Mir sailing training vessel.

Alyona Laptieva spoke in detail about her work as an officer on a sailing training vessel and thanked for the opportunity to master a difficult but interesting profession. In this, according to Alyona Laptieva, she was helped by the production practice that she had previously completed on the Mir STV.

Tatyana Mikhailova congratulated all participants of the event on the upcoming holiday, emphasizing the growing importance of women in the maritime industry, in the implementation of infrastructure projects for the construction of hydraulic structures and the maintenance of water areas and canals in order to ensure the safety of navigation, shared her experience of effective interaction in the team and thanked the organizers of the meeting for their interest in the topic of the role of women in maritime transport.
