North-Western Basin Branch takes part in event dedicated to the memorable date of Peter I's receiving the shipwright's patent

On January 25, 2024, the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch took part in a traditional festive ceremony in St. Petersburg dedicated to the memorable date of Peter I's receiving of a shipwright's patent in 1698.

This year, the Peter’s shipwright's patent and a carpenter's axe in a violin case, symbolizing the virtuoso skill of the shipwright, as a symbol of recognition of high professionalism and merits in the development of the marine industry, was awarded to Alexander Strelnikov, director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch.

Alexander Strelnikov congratulated all those present on this historic event and thanked the organizers of the event for their high appreciation of his work. In his speech, he noted the importance of implementing infrastructure projects of FSUE “Rosmorport” aimed at meeting the needs of the Russian economy and foreign trade in the maritime transportation of goods and passengers, as well as ensuring the safety of navigation in the waters of seaports of modern Russia.

The shipwright's patent is the first certificate of maritime education in Russia, which was awarded to Peter I in the Dutch city of Saardam (now Zaandam). In honor of the historical event in St. Petersburg, a monument to Peter the Great - the Tsar Carpenter – was erected on the Admiralteyskaya Embankment. The first solemn ceremony of laying flowers at this monument took place in 2006 on the initiative of the maritime community. Later, such a ceremony became an annual tradition in St. Petersburg, a leading training center for highly qualified professional personnel for the marine industry.

This year's event was supported by the Committee on Transport and the Committee on Industrial Policy of the Government of St. Petersburg, the Maritime Council under the Government of St. Petersburg, the Association of Shipbuilders of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the Regional Public Fund for the Promotion of Maritime Activities “Marine Petersburg”, the Marine Education Foundation, leading specialized educational organizations and public associations.
