North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Directorate takes part in drills for rescuing people in distress at sea

The drills for rescuing people in distress at sea were held in the seaport of Kaliningrad on July 16, 2019.

The drills involved the personnel and equipment of the GMDSS A1 Sea Area Control Center of the North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Directorate Service for Communications and Electric Radio Navigation, as well as crewmembers of the Captain Belyayev workboat.

Units of the Baltic Sea Fleet, the Kaliningrad customs, the border control service of Baltyisk, the Main Directorate of the Emergencies Ministry for the Kaliningrad region, other rescue and emergency formations deployed in the seaport of Kaliningrad also took part in the drills.

The maritime rescue coordination center of FSBI “The Administration of Seaports of the Baltic Sea” coordinated the efforts taken by all rescue and emergency units in the seaport of Kaliningrad.

During the drills, the units, military equipment and personnel of rescue and emergency services trained their actions for rescuing people in distress at sea in rescue areas in Russia’s responsibility zone.

Under the legend, a conditional explosion occurred in the engine space of the cargo passenger ferry and a fire started. The crew started evacuating passengers and joined efforts to save the vessel. Rescue surface forces found and recovered all passengers from rescue rafts and a rescue boat. All rescued people were taken to a reception area of Berth No 81 of the railway motor ferry complex in the seaport of Kaliningrad in order to provide first medical assistance and further to take them to medical institutions.

The drills showed full interaction and professionalism of all rescue services participating in the drills that helped achieve all goals.
