North-Western Branch conducts command and staff civil defense drills

On June 1, 2018 the North-Western Basin Branch organized and conducted command and staff civil defense drills at the Branch’s facilities in the seaports of Big Port St Petersburg and Ust Luga, as well as in administrative buildings of the Brance, in interaction with the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Department for St Petersburg and the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Main Department for the Leningrad region.

In addition to the Branch’s employees and workers of fire-fighting units, the drills involved representatives of FSBI “The Administration of Seaports of the Baltic Sea” and JSC “The Seaport of St Petersburg”, officers of the St Petersburg Line Department of Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs in the water transport industry and representatives of other organizations.

According to the legend of the drills, events to extinguish a simulated fire on the Karu icebreaker of the North-Western Basin Branch were held participants in the seaport of Big Port St Petersburg jointly with Crew No 19 of the fire-fighting unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Main Department for St Petersburg. During the drills, crewmembers of the Karu icebreakes conducted an evacuation of crewmembers from the burning vessel together with officers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Main Department for St Petersburg. 

Simultaneously, the events were held to extinguish the simulated fire in Administrative Building No 160 on the motor railway ferry complex in the seaport of Ust Luga jointly with officers of the fire-fighting unit of the Federal State Institution “Detachment No 37 of the Federal Border Guard Service” of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Department for the Leningrad region.

Moreover, employees have been evacuated from administrative buildings of the North-Western Basin Branch on a signal “Fire Service Training”. The participants in the drills trained actions taken by the personnel to render first aid to injured persons.

Operators of St Petersburg VTMS maintained permanent contact with the staff of the drills, transmitted information and cooperated with all vessels taking part in the drills. They also solved issues related to ensuring navigation safety in the water area of Big Port St Petersburg where the drills were being held.

Upon completion of the command and staff drills, actions taken by crewmembers of the Karu icebreaker and all employees of the Branch received high praise of the the fire-fighting service, law enforcement agencies and professional rescue units, as well as the leader of the drills – director of the North-Western Branch Sergei Pylin.
