Roald Amundsen Training Sailing Ship Calls at the Seaport of Kaliningrad

As a part of the announced year of youth exchange between Germany and Russia, representatives of two countries, aged from 16 to 26 went sailing on the Baltic sea on Roald Amundsen brig.

The brig came from the seaport of Kiel and moored in the seaport of Kaliningrad on July 3 at berth of the North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Department Ferry complex.

On July 4 pilots of the Kaliningrad Department performed pilotage of the vessel on the Kaliningrad Sea Channel, and also contributed actively to the organization of the brig team stay program in Kaliningrad and Baltiysk.

Delegation of the Kaliningrad Department Headed by Deputy Director of the North-Western Basin Branch – Head of the Kaliningrad Department Andrey Moshkov met the moored sailing ship at fleet comprehensive service berth, right embankment in the seaport of Kaliningrad.

In honor of the first visit of the sailing ship to the seaport Kaliningrad, Andrey Moshkov presented a commemorative gift to the brig master.

During vessel’s stay in the seaport, open days for exploring the brig construction and sailing ship crew life conditions will be organized for city residents and guests.

On July 10 the sailing ship is to accept another group of Russian and German youth and sets off to Stockholm.

Roald Amundsen brig was built in 1952 in Rosslau, GDR. The vessel was named in honor of a prominent Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen. Currently, the ship sails under the flag of Germany and is home port is the seaport of Ekernfёrde (Germany).
