Resuming of Operation of the “Baltiysk-Sassnitz” Ferry Line

In order to organize passage of Russian autocarriers to the countries of the European Union and back, on February 21, 2016 operation of the ferry line, connecting ferry terminal of the seaport of Kaliningrad near the city of Baltiysk (Kaliningrad region) with the seaport of Sassnitz (Germany) was resumed.

Petersburg sea ferry started its first voyage on the ferry line. The railway ferry complex of the North-Western Basin Branch in the seaport of Kaliningrad took 56 trains and 62 passengers on board.

The sea ferry is planned to carry out 2 port calls a week at the seaport of Kaliningrad and Sassnitz respectively.

As a part of preparation for resuming operation of the ferry line and in order to ensure most favorable conditions for carriers and consignors, respective adjustments and amendments were promptly introduced to the Techological scheme of the organization of crossings the Russian Federation state border by persons, vehicles, cargo, goods and animals at the marine checkpoint in the seaport Kaliningrad under the protocol decision of the meeting of the coordinating council of marine checkpoint in the seaport of Kaliningrad dated February 18, 2016.

This adjustments aim at optimization  of the railway ferry complex operation in the seaport of Kaliningrad, which simultaneously will ensure export and import flows of up to 160 cargo vehicles (80 units on each direction). Besides, the amendments will allow to create conditions for additional technological accumulation and storage of up to 200 vehicle units, when needed.

Petersburg sea ferry was built in 1986 in the GDR. The previous name of the vessel was MUKRAN, and in 1995 it was renamed Petersburg.
