Volunteer Saturday in Parc of Victory in Kaliningrad

In the framework of preparation to 70 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and anniversary of Königsberg Offensive the North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Department emploees gathered to clean up and improve Parc of Victory situated near the monument sacred to the memory of 1200 guardsmen in Kaliningrad.

The Kaliningrad Department emploees cleared away reed and garbage, and also painted railing and parapet of the bridge.

Monument of 1200 guardsmen in Kaliningrad was built after the decision of military council of 11th Guards Army adopted in the beginning of 1945. The Order about reinterment of the fallen soldiers into a common grave was signed by colonel-general K.N.Galitskiy on 8 May 1945. The monument was solemnly opened on 30 September 1945 and became the first memorial in the USSR immortalizing the feat of the Soviet soldiers fallen in the Great Patriotic War.

The Parc of Victory in Kaliningrad was founded on 8 May 2000 by veterans of the Great Patriotic War in accordance with the Decree of the Head of Administration (governor) of the Kaliningrad Region L.P.Gorbenko.
