Director of the Sakhalin Branch takes part in meeting on cargo delivery to Sakhalin Island with the use of Vanino-Kholmsk sea ferry service

The Public Council at the Khabarovsk Territory Ministry of Industry and Transport and the coordination council for delivering cargoes on Sakhalin Island gathered for a joint meeting at the Khabarovsk Territory government building on December 18, 2018 to discuss the issues related to cargo delivery to Sakhalin Island by using Vanino-Kholmsk sea ferry service.

The meeting was attended by director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Sakhalin Branch Yevgeny Pankratov.

In his report Yevgeny Pankratov spoke about the implementation of a project for reconstructing shore facilities of the automobile railway ferry complex in the seaport of Kholmsk. He noted that in October the Sakhalin Branch had carried out repair operations to restore operational properties of main structural elements of the linkspan bridge while continuing to handle ferries, including with railway cars.

The director said the Sakhalin Branch was planning to complete the basic cycle of repair operations in December 2018. The operations are scheduled to be ended in July 2019.

At the same time, since the beginning of 2019 FSUE “Rosmorport” has planned to carry out the gradual reconstruction of Stage I and Stage II of the ferry complex not only in the seaport of Kholmsk, but also in the seaport of Vanino. The reconstruction will include measures aimed at replacing technological equipment, increasing the length of berths and carrying out dredging operations. This will make it possible to handle Pro-Po vessels and transship container cargoes. The reconstruction of the ferry complexes in the seaports of Vanino and Kholmsk is synchronized with the construction of two new ferries.

Yevgeny Pankratov said that under the program of activities of the FSUE “Rosmorport” it is also planned to conduct repair dredging operations in the water area of the seaport of Kholmsk, the reconstruction of entrance breakwaters and equip the seaport of Kholmsk with engineered features to ensure transport security. Such measures will increase navigation safety of vessels in the seaport water area and help increase the number of vessel calls.
