Icebreaking Services

     1. General information

     Using  Kapitan Dranitsyn diesel-electrical ice breaker, the FSUE “Rosmorport” Murmansk Branch renders the following services to interested organizations in the water areas of the White Sea, and the Caspian Sea, on the North Sea Route, and if necessary, in other ice areas of the World Ocean:
     - icebreaking services;
     - maintaining conditions for ice channels passability and navigation safety;
     - providing vessels mooring in ice conditions;
     - supporting research in the Arctic continental shelf and providing expeditions to reach the South pole.

     The ice breaker of the Murmansk Branch are highly popular among both Russian and foreign clients.
     The Murmansk Branch ice breaker provided winter navigation for Russian companies in the seaports of the White Sea, rendered assistance to tankers in the Ob mouth for JSC NK Rosneft and to vessels in Enisey Gulf for JSC GMK Norilsky Nikel, and also transported passengers to Franz Josef Land archipelago in 2010-2012. In 2012 it provided the Federal State Unitary Scientific & Production Company "Sevmorgeo" scientific expedition on The Arctic Shelf investigation (Mendeleev Ridge) within the central part of the Arctic Ocean and in 2013 – the expedition of Federal State Budgetary Enterprise "Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute" to explore dangerous ice objects at Kara Sea. In 2015 and 2016 on the order of the “Sovphrakht” PJSC the icebreaker conducted the icebreaker support of the cargo and passenger ships delivering cargoes and conveying passengers to the Alexandra Land of the Franz Josef Land Archipelago. In August 2015 serving the interests of non-profit organization “Fund of Polar Researches “Polar Fund” the icebreaker picked the polar explorers with research equipment and research station residential complex from the drifting polar station (ice float). In September-October 2016 FSBI “Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute” chartered Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker in the Kara Sea for transport and icebreaker provision of the work of the expeditionary group of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute.
     The Murmansk Branch ice breaker is also frequently freighted on the international market. In particular, in 2008 and 2009 under the freight of the Alyaska University (USA) the Kapitan Dranitsyn ice breaker provided the work of a research expedition in the Barents Sea and the Kara Seam the Laptev Sea and the Norwegian Sea. In 2008-2009, 2010-2011 this ice breaker under the freight of Government of Argentina rendered ice breaking assistance fot the Vasily Golovnin motor boat in order to deliver supplies for the Argentie Antarctic station Bel-Grano II. The ice breaker crew received commendation from Government of Argentina for their good job.

     2. Icebreaking services terms and conditions

     The FSUE “Rosmorport” Murmansk Branch renders icebreaking services with the help of Kapitan Dranitsyn, and Kapitan Nikolaev icebreakers on a contract basis. Terms and conditions of an icebreaking contract (further referred to as Contract) are defined on an individual basis, depending on the purposes stipulated by the potential client.
     In order to make a Contract, a potential client should file an application to the Murmansk Branch by fax: +7 (8152) 55-08-50 or by e-mail: mf-rmp@mf-rmp.ru The application is reviewed by the Murmansk Branch within 30 days, or more, if additional consultations with the potential client are needed. If the Murmansk Branch has technical opportunities to render the requested services, the client is sent the Contract for signing. The signed Contract must be returned to the Murmansk Branch.
     The icebreaking services are rendered by the Murmansk Branch according to terms and conditions of the agreed Contract.
