First batch of young Russian sturgeon released into Sulak River

Under the project “Environmental Feasibility for Carrying Out Dredging Operations to Restore Project Dimensions of the Water Area and Approach Canals of the Seaport of Makhachkala in 2014-2019” and pursuant to the requirements of Russian environmental law related to the need to compensate damage caused to water bioresources and their environment during repair dredging operations in the water area of the seaport of Makhachkala in 2015-2017, a total of 126,400 young Russian sturgeon were released into Sulak River on August 1, 2018 in the presence of state supervisory agencies.

This is the first release of young Russian sturgeon with the average weight of 4.1 g this year. The sturgeon has been produced by the specialized fishing company on order of the Makhachkala Branch.

In August 2018 the Makhachkala Branch is planning to release the remaining batch of young Russian sturgeon into Sulak River.

The Branch spent over 6.7 million Rubles to produce and release young Russian sturgeon.
