Release of young Russian sturgeon into the Don River

As part of the implementation of the FSUE "Rosmorport" Azov Basin Branch of environmental measures to compensate for damage to aquatic biological resources and their habitat, caused during dredging operations on the Azov-Don Sea Canal in 2016-2018 and on the Taganrog approach channel and in the water area of the seaport of Taganrog in 2017-2018, in the presence of representatives of state control and supervisory bodies, from July 13 to 23, 2020, the release of young Russian sturgeon into the Don River (below the Tsimlyansk hydroelectric complex) took place.

Young Russian sturgeons with an average weight of 2.5 grams in an amount of almost 508 thousand pieces were cultivated by order of the Azov Basin Branch by a specialized fish breeding plant.

The release became the first and only one in the current year in accordance with the approved program of compensation measures of the branch for 2020.

The expenses of the Azov Basin Branch for the breeding and release of young Russian sturgeon amounted to more than 17 million rubles.
